Research themes
My work falls under four headings: students' emotional and social functioning, school counseling practice, the processes that sustain well-being, and addictive behaviours. These headings are not independent of one another; a student's school engagement is entangled with emotion regulation skills, and a turn toward the internet with loneliness and unhappiness. Studies in each area are listed below; the full list can be filtered on the publications page.

Social and emotional learning, emotion regulation, emotional self-efficacy, empathy, peer relationships, conflict resolution and responsible decision-making. Peer bullying and peace education belong here too: behind bullying there is usually a missing social-emotional skill. The largest strand of my work.
